Some ideas/thoughts for the future of NCNMLG - Locke Morrisey

Even though I’m relatively new to NCNMLG, I actually specialized in medical librarianship while in graduate school at UCLA. Not until my current job have I ventured back into healthcare librarianship. NCNMLG can fill a niche for those librarians who want to be involved at the local level and/or where librarians wear multiple hats and healthcare librarianship is only one aspect of their jobs so they may be less inclined to become involved with MLA at the national level.

With my presidency approaching, I’d like to see more outreach to librarians who are involved with different aspects of healthcare information but don’t necessarily see themselves as medical librarians so they don’t think about joining NCNMLG. Whether it’s health policy, psychosocial healthcare, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, alternative healthcare or other allied health healthcare information, I visualize a home for all of these librarians within NCNMLG.

We have such a rich pool of talent within the Nevada and Northern California, I’d like to see more programming or at least opportunities for librarians to network and strategize in a welcoming environment.

I look forward to serving as president of NCNMLG come this summer and welcome members to contact me with ideas/thoughts they have about the future of NCNMLG.

Cheers!
